life imprisonment be the punishment for sex determination

Should life imprisonment be the punishment for sex determination?
The Act banning sex determination has a very long name - Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act or PNDT Act. But the result has been very short. Just one person has been convicted of sex determination in the entire country since 1994, despite it having the provision for imprisonment up to three years and a fine of Rs 10,000 for the first offence. Social activists say this is too mild a punishment for such a serious crime.
